The small township of Adelaide River lies on the Stuart Highway, in the Darwin and Surround Region, located about 115 km south of Darwin and 200 km northwest of Katherine. It is situated close to the headwaters of the Adelaide River. There are some historical sites and a large World War II cemetery for 434 servicemen and 54 civilians, who were killed by air-raids in Darwin. The Adelaide River township also has pleasant scenic locations for walking and fishing in the area.
