Alice Springs is the biggest city and the major service centre and tourism destination in Central Australia. Alice Springs is also the second largest in the Northern Territory, Australia (after Darwin). It is locally known as `the Alice` and is about the same distance from Adelaide and Darwin. The town of Alice Springs lies on the banks of the mostly dry Todd River bed on the northern side of the MacDonnell Ranges. `The Alice`, as it is called, has a thriving and diverse community and tourist centre that supports a range of fun-filled festivals and events, focused on a healthy outdoor lifestyle and outback adventures.
