Alva Beach, located on the coast about 15 km North-East of Ayr, forms part of the Burdekin River delta, which extends for 60 km from Cape Bowling Green in the north, to Beach Hill in the South. The delta area includes many river entrances and a host of long beaches offering ideal holiday destinations. There is excellent fishing at Alva Beach and the boating, surfing and especially the diving in the local area is exceptional. Alva Beach is renowned as an ideal location for flat-water kiteboarding. The large sand bars block the waves and swell offering sheltered flat water producing arguably the best freestyle kiteboarding conditions on the Queensland coast. Alva Beach also produces waves in excess of 2 m high on the sandbar offshore in strong winds over 20 knots blowing from the South East, that are ideal for jumps. Alva Beach is an ideal destination for holidays and is a great base for exploring all the wonderful attractions and activities in the region.
