You can join fishing charters and hire boats at American River. The famous Kangaroo Island Oysters are available from the farms at Eastern Cove and you buy fresh and succulent oysters in the shell, and bottled oysters from local suppliers. Pelican Lagoon is an Aquatic Reserve that is an important for birds and as a fish nursery area. Cape Barren Geese, Black Swans and Pelicans use the islands in the lagoon for breeding and resting. American River is a great spot for bushwalking and bird watching and the foreshore areas and the famous Fish Cannery Walking Trail are excellent places to start.
