Apollo Bay is coastal town located between Lorne and Cape Otway on the Great Ocean Road, along the shores of the Barham River and on the Great Ocean Road, in the Colac Otway Shire. It is famous as the host for the annual Great Ocean Sports Festival and the Apollo Bay Music Festival. Apollo Bay has excellent swimming and surf beaches, as well as a large boat harbour that is home to a major fishing fleet. The main swimming beach lies opposite the shopping centre, including a good selection of restaurants and cafes, and boasts a grassy foreshore. Another popular beach lies at the mouth of the Barham River in Mounts Bay and at Marengo. Skenes Creek is another small and scenic seaside community about 5 km north of Apollo Bay. The rugged bushland of Great Otway National Park, which includes a lighthouse at Cape Otway, is worth visiting.
