Ararat is an attractive former gold-mining town in the foothills of the Grampians, about 200 km north-west of Melbourne. Ararat is also a service town for the local agricultural region producing oats, fine wool, wheat and wine. Explore the fascinating gold rush heritage and Chinese miner links by strolling through the town with its array of gold rush era buildings, and by visiting the Langi Morgala Museum and Gum San (Hill of Gold) Chinese Heritage Centre. The Ararat Regional Art Gallery showcases fine examples of regional art and features a unique collection of fabric and fashion. Visit one of the region`s wineries Ararat is an excellent base from which to explore all the attractions and activities of the Grampians National Park or the nearby Mt Cole, Mount Langi Ghiran and Mt Buangor.
