The Arkaroola Village is the settlement and for the famous Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary Resort located about 130km east of Leigh Creek and 600 km north of Adelaide, in the Northern Flinders Ranges adjacent to the Mawson Plateau and Gammon Ranges National Park . The 610 sq km award-winning Wilderness Sanctuary boasts some of Australia`s most spectacular mountain views and a wonderful range of guided eco-tours. Arkaroola features towering granite peaks, rugged mountains, spectacular gorges and intriguing waterholes, over 160 species of birds and many animal species such as the endangered Yellow-footed Rock-wallaby. Arkaroola is heaven for bushwalkers, nature appreciation and 4WD enthusiasts especially the world famous 4WD Ridgetop Tour is world famous. As a real bonus there are three fully equipped astronomical observatories, close to the Village area and Astronomy Tours, are available.
