Babinda - Holiday Activities, Tours, Attractions
- Where to Go, What to See and Do
Babinda is a small inland town on the Bruce Highway located about 60 km south of Cairns and 1600 km north of Brisbane in the Tropcal North Queensland Region. It has a hotel, a sugar cane mill and a small shopping centre. It is renowned, not for the town itself but for the outstanding natural attractions in the area. The famous Boulders located in the rainforest about 7 km to the west of town, consists of series of large boulders in a fast flowing cascades and waterfalls and plunge pools. The boulders have been worn smooth by the fast flowing water, making it very difficult for anyone who falls in to get out. Tragically since 1959 more than 15 people have drowned in this deceptive stretch of water, so be careful! Further west from the Boulders is Mt Bartle Frere which is Queensland`s tallest mountain, from which Babinda Creek's cool water which supplies the Boulders cool water originates. Located to the south-west of Babinda are the Josephine Falls, which are regarded by many people as the most spectacular falls in North Queensland. There is a 700 m long walk from the car park to the falls and to the swimming area. To the south-east is the Eubenangee Swamp National Park, which has a 1.5 km boardwalk through the wetland habitats.
