The local economy is based on beef, timber, mining and tourism. The Baralba Historic Village showcases the heritage of the region with focus on the past coal mining era. The broad reaches on the mighty Dawson River are a favourite spot for sailing, water skiing and angling. The Neville Hewitt Weir provides a permanent wide water body. Bushwalkers enjoy spectacular views from the summit of Mt Ramsay which is about 14 km out of Baralaba. You can see a wide range of Aboriginal art and craftwork at the Woorabinda Aboriginal settlement 33km north-west of Baralaba in the foothills of the Blackdown Tableland. There is a Farm Stay where horse riding is available and a golf course, tennis courts and bowling green.
