Beaconsfield is a small mining and tourist town on the Tamar River, in the North Central Region of Tasmania, located about 40 km north of Launceston, and 240 km north of Hobart, on the West Tamar Highway. Beaconsfield lies in the heart of an apple-growing district, the Tamar Valley Wine Region and the Tamar River has many oyster leases. There is also a major gold mine at Beaconsfield - where two miners Brant Webb and Todd Russell were trapped by an underground rockfall, but were rescued 9 days later on May 9, 2006.Visit the Grubb Shaft Museum Complex, which is a museum complex focused on gold mining period between 1877 and 1914. The complex includes a miner`s cottage, the Flowery Gully School, a shop from the period and the original Tasmania Gold Mine.
