The internationally famous surfing spot of Bells Beach, which is the venue for the famous Easter Surfing Classic, is located about 70 km south-west of Melbourne, near Torquay, on the wild coastline facing the wild ocean of Bass Strait. The beach at Bells is a in a quite small bay located between two bush covered headlands, with an elevated shoreline providing a perfect arena for spectators. There is no where to stay at the beach itself, which lies within a reserve, but there is some accommodation close by in the surrounding farming area, and at the major centre of Torquay, which is the famous surfing capital of Victoria. Bells Beach as a consistent swell which lead to it being selected as the the site of the 1970 world board-riding championships, which has continued until he present day. In the early 1970s the grassy area above the beach became first declared surfing reserve in the world. Each Eastr Bells Beach attracts surfers and spectators from all over the world to try the famous Bells surf or to watch the competition. There is a wider range of accommodation in Torquay, which has very good tourist facilities.
