For a taste of friendly country hospitality you can stay in the historic Hotel, or at one of the many Bed and Breakfasts and Farmstay properties in the Avon Valley. Wheat and sheep are the dominant local industries. Located about 10 km to the northwest of the town is the Avondale Agricultural Research Station which has a fascinating collection of historical farm machinery.
