Birkenhead is a charming north-western suburb of Adelaide, located about 14 km from the central business district, on the Lefevre Peninsula. Birkenhead is a popular seaside suburb with lots of accommodation and facilities for a variety of recreational activities. The Lefevre Peninsula offers a wide range of activities along the narrow spit of sand about 30 square kilometres in area that extends northward from its connection to the mainland, about 15 kilometres northwest of the centre of Adelaide. Along the peninsula are a continuous stretch of beautiful fine, white sandy beaches. The eastern side is separated from the mainland by the Port River and Barker Inlet. Torrens Island and Port Adelaide lies to the east of the peninsula. Suburbs on the peninsula include Outer Harbor, North Haven and Pelican Point in the north, and Ethelton and Semaphore South to the south.
