Blackall is a small town in the Central West of Queensland, about 1100 km from Brisbane, located on the Barcoo River and serving the farming communities in the Blackall-Tambo district. The major rural industry is grazing. Blackall is renowned as the home of the original Black Stump which was used for surveying purposes in 1887. Anything west of this point in Blackall is said to be `beyond the black stump`. The region attracts thousands of visitors for the Barcoo Rush to celebrate the gold rush days and the Claypan Boogie Country Music Festival in March.
