Broadford developed in the 1860s after a gold discovery in Sunday Creek. Several parks illustrate the local history. Mount Piper, located just west of Broadford, has lots of scenic bushwalking tracks. The Mount Disappointment State Forest, south-east of town, includes Strath Creek Falls, the Sunday Creek Reservoir, and offers spectacular views. Try trout fishing in the local streams and reservoirs. Close by is Mt Disappointment State Forest which has great scenery, including the 50m high Murchison Falls and offers BBQ and picnic grounds, and many interesting walking tracks. Some of the events in town include the Country Music Festival in February, the Scottish Festival in October, the March Hare Fair, and the Broadford Show in November.
