Buckland is located on the Tasman Highway about 63 km north east of Hobart. The district surrounding Buckland, originally known as Prosser Plains, was settled in the 1820s and the oldest house in the district is 'Woodsden', which was built in 1826. Other historic features include the Buckland Hotel and the St John the Baptist Church, which was built in 1846 to a design by architect Crawford Cripps Wegman.
