It is located on the Burnett River about 380 km north of Brisbane. Bundaberg is on the Burnett River. The thousands of kilometres of the Great Barrier Reef begins just north of Bundaberg and the two magnificent coral cays of Lady Elliot and Lady Musgrave Islands, popular for diving and swimming, can be accessed from Bundaberg. In the Hinterland surrounding towns such as Childers and Biggenden are popular with backpackers looking for fruit picking jobs. Visit the Bundaberg and District Historical Museum, and the Hinkler House Museum to discover the fascinating history of the region. Another popular spot is Mon Repos Beach where you can see Flatback, Leatherback and Logger Turtle. There is a turtle rookery at Mon Repos Beach with the nesting and egg laying between November and January, and hatching being between January and March. There is a wide selection of accommodation in and around Bundaberg which has excellent tourist facilities. The Bundaerg region has over 140 km of beautiful beaches stretch from Woodgate to the Town of 1770, that are stinger free and the beaches, lakes rivers and offshore reefs provide fantastic fishing.
