The peaks of the Bunya Mountains reach more than 1100 m above sea level and the views from the top are magnificent. The Bunya Mountains National Park conserve the largest remaining area of bunya pines Araucaria bidwillii in the world, while on the lower slopes with dry rainforest, the hoop pines predominate. The forests protect threatened and rare flora and fauna including orchids and small herbs. There are a wide variety of habitats including eucalypt forests, brigalow scrubs, woodlands and vine thickets. There are three main camping and picnic areas Westcott, Dandabah, and Burton`s Well. The park is home to about 120 species of birds and many species of frogs, mammals and reptiles. Birdlife is abundant, with flocks of brightly coloured parrots often visiting the picnic areas.
