Carpenter Rocks is located on the picturesque Limestone Coast about 37 km due west of Mount Gambier. Carpenter Rocks has a beautiful embayment, which provides a safe, sheltered harbour for a number of fishing boats and is an ideal amateur fishing location. The famous Cape Banks Lighthouse, located about 4 km from Carpenter Rocks, is well worth a visit. In this area of the coast are the wrecks of many ships including `Admella` that went down in 1859 causing in the loss of 84 lives. Other wrecks in the area are: Troas, Flying Cloud, Edith Haveland, Helen, Varoon, Admella, Agnes and Aeolus. There is excellent diving in the area as well as surfing and swimming. There is excellent bushwalking and camping at Lake Bonney and in the Canunda National Park, which is popular for bird-watching and nature appreciation. The cray fishing industry plays a major role in the town.
