Chinchilla is a rural service and tourist town in the Western Downs Region of Queensland, located about 300 km north west of Brisbane. Agriculture is the main focus of the district, mostly beef and pork production, wool and sheep, and the growing of a variety of vegetable and other horticulture products. The Kogan Creek Power Project has also added to the economy of the town. Chinchilla is a thriving, friendly community with a wide range of events, activities and attractions and excellent recreational and tourist facilities. Chinchilla is the ideal stop-over destination on your way to the Queensland Outback. Chinchilla hosts the famous Melon festival in February every second year and Chinchilla is the home of Polocrosse in Australia. Chinchilla has great sporting facilities and amenities. Chinchilla Weir is a great spot for water sports, and there is excellent fishing in the weir and the local rivers. You an also fossick for petrified wood, known as 'Chinchilla Red', in the district.
