Collie is moderate size rural service town and tourist centre located 200 km south east of Perth in the South West Region of Western Australia that has excellent sporting facilities including: grass tennis courts, swimming pool, hockey, two golf courses, indoor recreation centre, lawn bowls, football, BMX, motocross and speedway. Collie has spectacular views of rolling farmlands, forests and valleys. Nearby is a major open cut coal mine used for power generation, supplying both the Muja and Collie Power Stations. Much of the surrounding area is National Forest, State Forest and Conservation Park areas, offering scenic drives, fascinating walks and through large stands of Jarrah, Sheoak, Marri, and Blackbutt forests and wonderful camping areas. The Collie River has wonderful meandering waterways suitable for a diverse range of activities, from gentle canoeing or kayaking in the Minninup Pool, on the upper reaches of the Collie River, to white water rafting in the rapids below Wellington Dam. Some of the popular activities in the Collie River Valley are: Bush camping, canoeing, swimming, fishing, kayaking, water-skiing, and catching marron (in season).
