The secluded beach is shaded by palm trees and has wonderful views of the Low Isles. Cooya Beach a quiet, secluded town that is very popular for fishing, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, boating and wind surfing. A convenient boat ramp for access to the Mossman River is located at the end of the road that passes along the beach. The river itself is an excellent spot for both shore fishing and boat fishing with a range of estuary species available such as mangrove jack, mud crabs, barramundi, queenfish, trevally, and bream in the lower reaches. There is good fishing upstream in the freshwater sections of the river focused on jungle perch, sooty grunter and barramundi. In the estuary the best tactic is to fish on the turn of the tide and to use live bait. Another good tactic is to cast your lures along the outer margin the mangroves on the rising tide. The beach is an excellent spot for walking along the beach and there is a wide range of attrctions and activities at Cooya Beach and the surrounding district.
