Daintree is the gateway to Cape Tribulation and all the diverse plants and animals in the Daintree Rainforest , which is part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Rainforest. The Daintree River, itself is also haven for a diverse array of fish, aquatic animals, birds and wildlife. It is a great fishing and boating location. There are many local tour operators in the area that offer fantastic trips through the rainforest habitats especially in the Daintree National Park. Be sure to call in at the Daintree Rainforest Environment Centre, located on the opposite side of the Daintree River from the township, to get all the information you need to enjoy this wonderful area. There is a small museum that displays the diverse range of timber from the area. The Daintree Ferry that provides vehicular access for travellers crossing the river and heading north to Cape Tribulation and Cooktown, operates from 6 a.m. to midnight, 7 days a week.
