Daly Waters is renowned for the popular Daly Waters Pub, that boasts a wonderful collection of outback Australia and local heritage memorabilia and many humorous items. Historically, Daly Waters is renowned for being Australia`s first international airfield, a stop-over for the 1926 London to Sydney air race and it was also a WWII air field and base Visitors can see the original hangar built by Qantas near the township. Located about 1 km north of the town is Stuart`s Tree, which is supposed to have been marked with a letter 'S' by John McDouall Stuart during long journey attempting to cross Australia from south to north in 1861-2. Stuart called the area near the springs he found on his last attempt to cross the continent, after Sir Dominick Daly, the Governor of South Australia at the time. Stuart`s last attempt to cross the continent was successful and he arrived at the northern coast close to the site of modern day Darwin on 24 July, 1862.
