To the south-east lies Heywood with its range of antique and arts and craft stores and the Bower Bird Museum. Portland, the site of Victoria`s first permanent settlement, which started as a whaling station, lies on the coast about 20 km south of Heywood. Near the border is the Princess Margaret Rose Caves which provides an extraordinary view of prehistoric marsupial lions, huge echidna and giant kangaroos perished and were mummified among the limestone stalactites and stalagmites.
