Dimbulah is a small historic town on the Atherton Tableland, located about 110 km from Cairns. The town was originally established in 1876 to for the Tyrconnell Gold Mine, which was one of the richest mines on the Hodgkinson Gold Fields. In the 1950`s the Tinaroo-Dimbulah irrigation scheme was established and a variety of agricultural industries were established, initially focused on tobacco, but this has shifted to mango plantations, ti-tree, coffee, pawpaws, bananas, fruit trees, peanuts vegetables and sugarcane. Dimbulah has a restored rail station on the `Savannahlander` line that runs between Forsayth and Cairns. Some of the local activities you can try are: # Fossicking # Sampling the local produce # Seeing Aboriginal sites and artworks # Swim in the local watering holes.
