The town was established in the 1840s and gold was discovered in 1852 Echunga became South Australia`s first proclaimed goldfield. The intriguing Jupiter Creek Heritage Trail showcases the rush that took place and includes visits to the 80 m deep New Phoenix Tunnel and remnants of a number of old gold mining shafts. Echunga also has a heritage walk and a country treasure market on the first Saturday of each month. The Echunga Golf Club is another major attraction. There is a range of places to stay to enjoy all the delights of the Adelaide Hills Region.
