The Finke Gorge National Park extends for an area of 46,000 hectares, and includes the stunning Palm Valley, which is home to a diverse rvariety plant species many of which are rare and endemic to the area, including the Red Cabbage Palm. The Park is located about 140 km west of Alice Springs. The last 16 km of road follows the sandy bed of the Finke River and access is via 4WD vehicle only. Various tour operators regularly visit the Park from Alice Springs. Some of the features of the park are bushwalking, camping and four-wheel driving in the Park. You can get a copy of the Finke River 4WD Route information sheet from the Parks and Wildlife Services office in Alice Springs or from the Tourism Central Australia visitor centre. A campground with toilets, wood and gas barbecues, hot showers and picnic areas are available.
