It has a fascinating collection of modern clothes shops, art galleries, specialty shops, bookshops and a vibrant nightlife. Brunswick Street`s trendy cafes, restaurants and fascinating bars coming alive at night with crowds of locals enjoying the great variety of venues. Fitzroy is also renowned for its public gardens and historic buildings including Captain James Cook`s family home, which was bought to Fitzroy in 1934 to commemorate Victoria`s centenary. The cottage was dismantled, stone by stone, transported by ship to Melbourne and rebuilt in the Gardens. Fitzroy also boasts a model Tudor Village.
