It is the perfect base to stay on your way to the Hastings Caves and Tahune Airwalk and or for a longer holiday exploring all the wine and delights of the Huon Valley. There is a wide range of places to stay, wonderful restaurants, craft and antique shops, and of course the world famous Wooden Boat Centre. The main street has many restored historic timber buildings, some featuring the local huon pine. A major attraction is the Ye Olde Franklin Tavern, which is a pleasant historic pub, established in 1853. The jetty beside the river is also worth visiting. It was once used for shipping fruit and timber from the region. A local features is the long narrow strip of land in the river known as Egg Island.
