The Gippsland Lakes are a large network of interconnected lakes, marshes and lagoons in East Gippsland, Victoria, covering an area of about 600 square kilometres of waterways. The largest of the lakes are Lake King, Lake Wellington and Lake Victoria. The lakes receive water from the Thomson, Avon, Latrobe, Mitchell, Nicholson and Tambo rivers. There are also two national parks that adjoin the Lakes, Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park and Lakes National Park, both of which offer great camping and bushwalking. The Gippsland Lakes, including Lake Tyers, is the largest estuarine lake system in Australia, offering a huge array of water sports: boating, canoeing, houseboats, kayaking, yachting, sailboard riding, swimming, skiing and fishing.
