It is a typical wheat growing and sheep grazing service town with many attractive historic buildings and the relic of a large steam tractor imported in 1889, which cleared much of the local land for farming. There is a fascinating display of early agricultural machinery in the town. The surrounding farmland supports a highly productive agricultural area with efficient livestock and cropping industries focused on canola, clover seed, peas, wheat, lupines, barley, canola, clover seed, peas, oats and faba beans. Close to town is the majestic Stirling Range, which has become a popular ecotourism destination. It is an extraordinary place of unique native plants, wildflowers and towering rocky peaks.
