Heyfield is one of the gateways to all the fabulous attractions and recreational activities of the Victorian High Country. Heyfield`s major industries are dairying, tourism and timber. Heyfield is the origin of most of the treated hardwood in Victoria and Heyfield hosts a timber festival each year and some of its mills are open to the public. Close to Heyfield is the Glenmaggie Reservoir where you can go boating, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, sailing, waterskiing and trout fishing. The area offers a range of activities including: bushwalking, horse riding, 4-wheel driving, wildlife appreciation, bird watching, fishing and visiting the local art and craft galleries, markets, antique shops, pottery studios, wineries, wetlands, gardens and all the attractions of the High Plains. The scenic drive to Licola offers many natural attractions and between June and September there are often excellent cross-country skiing conditions north of Licola, in the region of Mount Skene and Mount Tamboritha.
