Howard Springs is a rural district south of Darwin that has many mango farms and scenic rural surrounds. The Howard Springs Nature Park protects a diverse range of habitats including monsoon forest, wetland swamps and riverine areas. Located about 35 km from Darwin it is a great place to enjoy natural springs environment, see long necked turtles and other native wildlife and feed the huge barramundi that live there. These areas provide valuable habitats for many bird species, especially for Whistling Ducks, Magpie Geese, Radjah Shelducks and Pygmy Geese.. There is a 1.8 km walking and interpretative track with signs about the local fauna and flora along the way. Another short track winds through dense rainforest to the springs which feed the main pool. Visit Jenny`s Orchid Farm to see stunning tropical orchids, and you can try a fishing close to town. Howard Springs has a service station, supermarket and newsagency.
