Hyden is a small wheat-belt and tourist town located 335 km south-east of Perth in Outback Western Australia. Hyden is the home of the famous Wave Rock and Mulka`s Cave, both of which are popular tourist attractions. The main industries in the Hyden district are mining, tourism and agriculture mostly cattle and sheep grazing. The remarkable Wave Rock is part of the much larger Hyden Rock, located 4 km east of Hyden which is one of thousands of granite outcrops across most of the Central Wheat Belt. Wave Rock has a unique shape which is like a huge collapsing wave, over 100 m long. The unusual shape is accentuated by vertical streaks of algae growing on the surface of the `wave` as black lines which change to brown during the dry season. Nearby are other unusual features including Hippo`s Yawn and King Rocks. Bates Cave does have very interesting Aboriginal hand painting. There are a number of shops near Hyden Rock including a wildflower shop a small wildlife park and a Pioneer Town.
