The Deep clay soils in the valleys support farms growing apples and pears, stone fruits, and a small commercial rose growing industry. Kalamunda was once part of a thriving logging region on the Upper Darling Range Railway, and there is a museum at the site of the original station. Kalamunda and the surrounding areas have an arts and crafts tradition. Located nearby is the Kalamunda National Park and the northern end of the Bibbulmun Track, which is a 963 km recreational walking trail.
