The railway line and the rich agriculture have boosted Katanning to a major centre in the wheatbelt. The Katanning Sheep Show and Ram Sale in August is a major event that is part of the WA Merino Week activities. A major attraction is the magnificent are the rugged peaks of the Stirling Range National Park, located about 90 km south of Katanning, which is renowned for its diverse range of plants, with more than 1500 species and wonderful range of animals. The spring wildflower displays are famous and attract visitors from all over the world.
