Kojonup is a classic and charming, small wheatbelt township in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia. It is located on the Albany Highway about 250 km south of Perth. Every spring the surrounding lands are covered in a spectacular display of wildflowers - especially the magnificent wild orchids - which attract visitors from all over the world. Kojonup hosts the annual Country Wildflower Festival in September and the Kojonup Flora Sanctuary is worth visiting. The historic military barracks, built in 1845, have been turned into a museum which showcases the heritage of the region. The magnificent jarrah trees of the area are used by local wood carvers and furniture makers to make unique items that show the magnificence of the timber. Some of the local attractions in the area are: # Kojonup Spring and Scenic Pool # The historic Kojonup Military Barracks that were built by soldiers of the 51st Regiment in 1845. In 1963 the Barracks was bought by the local Shire Council and given to the Historical Society to develop as a museum. It is now classified by the National Trust. # Elverds Cottage.
