It is situated amongst rolling hills and green pastures on the northern side of Tower Hill, an extinct volcano. The main rural enterprises are potatoes, onions and dairying. The Tower Hill State Game Reserve, located just 3km out of town, contains many excellent walking tracks and a Natural History Centre with a bird hide for viewing the unique birdlife of the area. The 22 km long Mahogany Walking Track which winds from Warnambool to Port Fairy has fantastic coastal scenery.
