Cotton Tree, a beachside suburb on the Maroochy River, is a fabulous vacation location, and the area has an array of excellent vacation apartments and a caravan park. The river mouth, which is a kite surfer's and angler's paradise, was once spoilt scenically by a large timber mill from which the local timber from the rainforest in the area was loaded and transported to Brisbane by paddle-steamer. The Maroochy Shire is blessed with 25 km of golden sandy beaches, headlands and sparkling ocean. It is home to premier surfing locations such as Alexandra Headland, Mooloolaba, Coolum and Maroochydore. The area also boasts many forest, parkland and National Parks.
