Lancelin is a small fishing and tourist town on the Sunset Coast of Western Australia, located about 110 km north of Perth. Close by is the renowned shipwreck site of the Gilt Dragon (Vergulde Draeck) that was wrecked on rocks close to shore in 1656. Lancelin is well known as one of the best windsurfing and kite-surfing locations in Australia. Sand-boarding and the local sand dunes and 4-wheel driving on the beaches is also popular. The area is also suitable for many other water sports including, surfing, swimming, body-boarding, snorkelling and scuba diving, boating, and beach/boat/rock fishing. Lancelin has wonderful tourist facilities and a great range of beachfront accommodation to suit all budgets and tastes. Most boating and surfing equipment can be hired locally, and there are many tours of the hinterland, scenic coastline and offshore boat charters available. The area is renowned for its wonderful wildflower displays in spring. To the south of Lancelin are the small fishing villages of Ledge Point and Seabird. There are many shipwrecks off the coast of Lancelin, which is the gateway to a world famous dive trail with 14 wrecks along the coastline allowing for spectacular diving for experienced scuba divers.
