Larrimah is a small, typical outback town in the Katherine Region of the Northern Territory, located between located between Daly Waters and Mataranka, about 535 km south of Darwin and 180 km south of Katherine. Larrimah is a roadhouse, budget accommodation including a caravan park and a delightful outback pub. There is a museum at the old police station with collections relating to the North Australian railway and air transport during the war includes photographs of nearby Gorrie airfield during the war. The Gorrie airfield was once a large and very busy repair and maintenance base in the Pacific during WWII with 2,000 stationed military personnel. It was intended as a major line of defence facility during the war.
