Lawson is a beautiful town in the Blues Mountains of NSW. It is located is about 90 km from Sydney and about 730 m above sea level. Lawson was named after William Lawson, who with Blaxland and Wentworth made the first successful crossing of the Blue Mountains by Europeans in 1813. Lawson is the launching point for some excellent bushwalking, including: the South Lawson Waterfall Circuit (4 km) which runs through South Lawson Park which contains Federal Falls, Junction Falls, Cataract Falls, Adelina Falls, and Leslie Falls. North Lawson Park also has many walking trails and contains St Michael`s Falls, Fairy Falls and Frederica Falls. One of the main tracks is the famous Dante's Glen to Empire Pass Circuit Trail (about 3 km long), which is very popular for bird watching and bushwalking. Another popular and tranquil destination is the Minnatonka Falls near Bullaburra in Red Gum Park, which is located just west of Lawson.
