Lovedale, known as the `Heart of the Hunter Valley` is located directly east of the Pokolbin area, 160 km north-west of Sydney. Well known internationally as an area producing fine wines, the grape growing and wine production of Lovedale dates from the early 1800s when local grain, wheat, and other growers switched progressively to growing grapes. Lovedale is a friendly community of quality guesthouses, boutique wineries, quality restaurants, fascinating galleries, and a wide range of tourist and recreational facilities such as winery tours, hot air ballooning, golf, horse riding and adventure trips. The main tourist event is the annual `Lovedale Long Lunch`, which attracts thousands of visitors to `taste` of what Lovedale has to offer. In addition to the main attractions, local wineries and other businesses organise their own functions such as String Quartet in the Vines, Country Music in the Vines, Olive oil tastings, and pasta classes.
