Low Head is a small town at the mouth of the Tamar River in the North central Region of Tasmania, located about 5 km north-west of George Town and 50 km from Launceston. Low Head is a very popular holiday spot that is renowned for its boating, fishing and wonderful scuba diving offshore from the Low Head Pilots Station. All the attractions of the Tamar Valley are close to this ideal base to stay including the fabulous wineries along the Tamar Valley Wine Trail. The penguin colony is also a major attraction, as well as the many historic buildings showcasing the history of the area.
