Listed Below are the Lune River - Holiday Activities, Tours, Attractions - Find where to Go, what to See and Do.
Lune River is a small town on the Far South Coast of Tasmania about 100 km south of Hobart, which is famous for its historic railway and fossicking area. The Ida Bay Railway was originally constructed to carry limestone from the Ida Bay quarries to the port area in Deep Hole Bay and Lune River Estuary. Today you can take a two-hour, 14 km return trip on a restored section of this historic line, riding in 1890s passenger carriages and powered by 1940s Malcolm Moore locomotives. The trip travels through lovely bush land and coastal heath. You can see the site of the once-thriving Ida Bay township and turns around at Deep Hole Bay which has a sandy swimming beach and picnic facilities. The Lune River fossicking area is located along the Leprena Road and has the unique petrified fern, agate, petrified wood and jasper.
