The Mackay Region is a wonderful holiday destination offering the fantastic Great Barrier Reef, beautiful beaches and pristine rainforests in a warm and friendly environment with excellent facilities. The Mackay area coastline has many spectacular beaches and scenic rocky headlands. Close to the city centre are popular Harbour Beach which is patrolled throughout the year, Lamberts Beach / Slade Point, Illawong Beach and Far Beach. A little further away is the array of the wonderful Northern Beaches including: Eimeo, Bucasia and Blacks Beach, and Shoal Point. In addition there are secluded beaches in the Cape Hillsborough National Park, where the rainforest quite literally runs down into the Coral Sea. Mackay has many boat owners who enjoy the wonderful range of water-based activities such as sailing, diving, general boating and fishing. There are also numerous dams, creeks and rivers throughout the district for inland fishing. There are many boat ramps for offshore fishing on the reefs and around the islands dotted offshore.
