Maningrida is the home of an indigenous community in the heart of the Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. Maningrida is located about 300 km north east of Jabiru and 500 km east of Darwin, on the Liverpool River estuary on the coast of North Central Arnhem Land. The Kunibídji people are the traditional landowners of this country. The area is renowned as a pristine fishing destination. Travellers need a permit from the Northern Land Council to visit the area. the network of waterway surrounding Maningrida have a large range of fish species such as salmon, barramundi, mangrove jack, trevally, golden snapper, Spanish mackerel and coral trout. Visitors can also learn about Aboriginal art and culture at the Maningrida Arts and Culture Centre, which features traditional and contemporary art; fibre craft, bark paintings, sculptures, prints and conical woven fish traps that are unique to the area.
