Maryborough is a major rural and tourist centre located on the Mary River about 30 km north-east of Hervey Bay and 300 km north Brisbane. Tourism plays a major role in the economy of the city which Maryborough promoted as the Heritage City of Queensland. Maryborough`s main industries are fishing, timber, railway yards and tourism. Once the lifeblood of the town`s enterprises, the Mary River continues to be a major focus for the town.
