Meningie is renowned as a charming holiday destination at the northern end of The Coorong, that features many parks beside the lake, which when full provides a wide range of water sports. The Coorong, where the Murray River flows into the sea, is a spectacular National Park. The Coorong is a saltwater lagoon over 100 km long that is cut off from the sea by the dunes of the Younghusband Peninsula. The southern and northern lagoons of the Coorong come together at Parnka Point, which is about 20 km south of Meningie. The area has a huge collection of birds and when full provides great fishing and boating for visitors.
